 I think the kids will be labelled 'chhetri'. Based on what i know, when a Brahmin marries somebody of lower his/her kids will be move a step down. I dont really agree with this and that what i think. I might be wrong!!

busenitz, where did you hear that? Chhetri is a caste in itself not a mix-caste. Bahun+Chhetri is K.C.

Not sure what bahun+newar would be, but I like Chaurey's question. That's more meaningful.

I have seen cases but i am not a pundit on it. Well What i think is "two ppl from different castes get married and their progeny will be of the  lower caste (among them). If one of them is Brahmin, then they will be Chhetri (which is considered one step down than initial Brahmin caste)." The  whole point of caste system is to classify ppl on a ladder system (not talking about historically) so the supriority and inferiority does exist. I agree Chhteri is a caste itself but it isone step down to Brahmins. If Brahmins did something unethical, as a punishment they are moved down. There are no castes like G.C, K.C instead they are the surname of "Chhetri" caste.

p.s~ not to confuse you guys, I am not advocating the superiority or inferiority of any caste but just sharing my thoughts and opinion. I personally do not care about the caste but it will be nice understand the underlying theories.

Busentiz, I am not sure where you got the idea that Chhetri was a caste created out of moving Brahmins one caste down as punishment. Either I have got the fact wrong or you are making something without any basis.

Like we have said here in the post, Chhetri is a stand alone caste not a derivative of Bahun/Brahmin. The class system in caste system existed to separate the labor and socio/economic structure of the ancient time. Brahmin obviously got the highest order because they wrote the book on caste system. Chhetris were the warrior clan, derivatives of which are Khas and Thakuris.

You clearly are not familiar with the historical scriptures, so let's discuss something you are familiar with, Mahabharata. All those Pandavas and Kauravas, the kings, they were all chhetriyas. They didn't get that caste because their ancestors did something wrong. Brahmins worked for them, although they had to touch their feet.

Some might find this dicussion futile; but we aren't advocating for caste system here; merely pointing out a fact on historical origins of an important aspect of our then society: caste system.

@ thread initiator

The caste is chhetri, sadly. But how come it is chhetri? the child is half newar and half bahun. IS chhetri mixture of any other castes or chhetri itself a pure caste ? Fu....((k  those pandit bajes who made chhetri a dumpster to dump their mess.

As long as we are talking about historical facts, may I ask, who went ahead and decreed that Newars are inferior to Bahuns?  Are Newars mentioned in scriptures as those of lower caste or even mentioned at all?

@ nepali-american

You are right. bahuns claimed themselves to be the highest caste. They just cared about their own genetic purity and made others genetically messed up (which is good though) . See how strange is nepalese caste system......

Chhetri mom + bahun dad == chhetri child (50% chhetri genetically)
Other caste mom + Bahun dad = chhetri child (0% chhetri genetically) how can this combination be a chhetri?

I am 100% chhetri and my ancestor were not degraded from bahun.

@Nepali_American

From what I know, you really have to look at which origin do you want to follow. The 4 caste system prevalent in hindu religion doesn't specify Newar into one single category as far as I know. Now, if you look at Muluki Ain (By Janga Bahadur) I believe there is a mention of Newar brahmin which fall into second class. Muluki ain puts Chhetri and Brahmins (those who wear janais) in first class.

I want to quote Bhanu Bhakta here to remind what we're talking about after all is said and done:
Chhetri ko chhoro tyo pau chunchha, ghina le chhudaina

Manisa thulo dila le hunchha, jata le hudaina.

I haven't posted here in a while but when people start talking like bahun and chettri are superior to others it just boils my blood.
Those bahun and chettri's who haven't gotten over their supposed superiority need to be lined up in a row and butt fuqd. Even in this day and age they feel like they are superior to others, that just shows their stupidity.

 Kiddo,
I never said Chhetri is not a caste. Yes, it is a caste but the caste system rely on superiority/inferiority. Look at the figure below

I am not saying all Chhetris are "Chhetri" because they got moved down and once they were Brahmins. You didnt get my point. All I am saying is Brahmins were penalized for their  so called unethical behaviours by moving a step down. Lets assume a soocer game, if a player doesnot perform well on a game, the coach will put him on bench. But that doesnot mean all the players on the bench performed poor on the pitch and ended up on the bench.

I dont want to talk about who wrote the caste system and all that sort of stuffs but we all interpreted the scriptures wrong. What it said was there are four castes and they were classified as:

SUDRAS- A person who is self centered, doesnot care about anything else but him/her self
VAISHYA- A person who thinks more than himself but limits to his family and goal of his/her life is material gain. (ppl doing business )
KSHATRIYA- A person whose goal is more than serving a family and serves his/her country (fighters, worriers,rulers)
BRAHMINS- A person who has a higher goal of living by studying and understanding the scriptures and spreading knowldege. His/Her purpose of life is to gain spiritiual growth and share it.

  Thats how it is mentioned and it says your life decides what caste you belong to. Since we believe in reincarnation, what we do today and how we choose to live will affect the caste we will be born in our next life.

p.s~ I have shared my knowldge and information. I am not advocating for a particular caste. I may not believe all the things I wrote since i presented it based on religious and historical information.

@busenitz
Dude, I was going to quote what you had said earlier and then realized you already deleted those posts. It's all good, as long as you do not say "Kshatriya was a caste that came from Brahmins who did something wrong" I am okay with how you interpret it. Yes, I have already said it in my post that Brahmins were of the highest order in the hindu caste system (again because they wrote the book) and by Nepali muluki Ain they share it with Kshatriyas.

They might have made sense back then to easily portionalize population into task specific group, they mostly kept our civilization from fostering and threw us backwards.

@Shrestha Babu. You are what I call a blindfolded warrior. The warrior only hears what he wants to and comes swinging. As soon as he hears anybody talk about caste OR anything related to India, he comes and waves his sword up high like a proud warrior.

Fact is none of the previous poster (including busenitz) have claimed bias on caste, we are merely pointing out the historical facts. In case you were referring it in general (not to the posters) then I agree with you.
