Hello Friends............. Namaste................

In 1 month, I am moving to Canada under Federal Skilled Workers program, and looking for some expert advice

How does the credit scores from another country works in Canada................... if you have a good credit score in U.S. is it gonna count in Canada and help to get credit cards/financing from Canada? What if you have a bad credit in U.S, how is it going to affect the canadian credit ratings.

I need some genuine advice guys.

Cheers.

 hi Sajhafan,

Many many congratuations.....

i am also trying to get Canda PR. I had received a letter that my file has been transfered to Buffalo office on June, 2011. I had started my applicaton on Last year on Oct, 2010. Received at CIC on December, 2010 and after that they have transfered the file to Buffalo office and received the letter.

I am getting frustrated about this.. waiting waiting.. can you give your timeline about when you started applying and when you received your notification...

By the way which category/occupation  did you apply for in skilled worker...

your suggestions and advise are highly appreciated.

Your and my timeline are almost similar. I started mine on august, file transferred to buffalo in december, got my visa on september. Just hang in there buddy, very soon its gonna come. There are lots of people in backlog like you.

Now i m trying to leave US and wishing that my credit score will get transferred to Canada, or something like that. If I have to start from the scratch it will be FUNNN.

Yes, they send all the messages through emails that you provide in your initial application. Only the Medical request will come through USPS. And if you change the address while in progress, they will still send you in the same old address that you first provided  in your initial application. I tried to change my address in their system like more than 10 times, and they still send it at old address. So check that too.

Check your spam, many forum members in canadavisa.com were saying that their email ended up in spam and they came to know about it  after a while.

Goodluck with your process. Wait ....... everything will be just fine.

cheers.

Sajhafan, congratulations for your success under the Federal Skilled Workers Program. To answer your query, the credit scores and ratings from a different country in Canada does not count. You will have to start all over again from zero because Canada has its own consumer credit bureau.

Your bad credit score in US will not have anything to do with acquiring credit cards or financing in Canada, as it all starts from point zero, as I mentioned earlier. However, a bad credit rating elsewhere (esp. the US)  can have a negative impact in the long run when you are seeking a top Canadian Federal job to my understanding.  It is then they will look into all your details for secret clearence and your credit history will then come into scrutiny.

I am sure there are many more knowledgeable people here in Sajha, please correct me if I am wrong.

While your US credit history might not transfer to Canada, having the credit history report handy might help you wherever credit is needed.

Sajhafan,
The answer to your question about credit transfer is both yes and no.  If you get a job say in a financial company which requires a credit and background check than your record from US will work.  It can work for renting a place too, however it is very difficult to get Canadian Credit Card by US credit history.  And sorry to inform you but you have to build your Canadian Credit from scratch.  If your credit score in US is good I suggest you get an American Express coz you can transfer it from US card to Canadian Card and keep the same limit.
Also, if you are moving to Canada from US make sure you take your driving record from US.  Trust me on this and thank me later as you'll save tons of money in Car insurance (which will be a lot more in Canada) and can get Driver License easily.

Jonny is on the money!  Get your driving record from relevant DMVs as well as letters from your past insurance companies, otherwise your auto insurance premium will be super high.

Thank you guys for so many replies. So in short, good credit doesn't count and bad credit does. Well I dont have bad credit, and I think I can transfer my credit card through capitalone since they are in canada also.

I am definitely going to get the Driving Record from DMV. I heard that taxes and insurance are very high in Canada.

@charller: You can apply through Quebec. You just need to learn basic French. Check their website for quebec immigration. There is a Calculator, it will tell you exactly where you stand and what you need.

Goodluck.

No, I just applied through regular FSW1. In order to apply through Provincial Nominee Program ( PNP), you need job offer from Canada. Now for me that was next to impossible. I tried nobody replied.

Goodluck with your Visa.

@titanic- You wont qualify unless you have relatives that can sponsor u. These days the occupation list is so much filtered that they seem not to need anyone from technical background. I also have an MSin Information System and the last time I checked, there were no occupations listed for computer field or engineering. They need people like cooks, carpenters, farmers, etc but not people who have advanced degrees in STEM. i guess they aledy have enough

what about the Quebec program? As I spoke with the attorney he said I will be qualified and I don't need any job offer or relatives back in canada. He even said me basic french language is fine for this program.

Here is the most recent list. Check if you qualify. You do not need any relatives in Canada. If you have them, it helps to get additional 5 points, thats it. Whereas for Quebec, you need to learn basic French, and you are good to go. Go to their website and see if you qualify.

I sent an email for free assessment with Canadavisa.com, David Cohen. It appears that IT degrees are still eligible under Quebec Skilled workers. But it is essential to at least learn beginners level of french. Have anyone used his firm for legal representation.
I understand that it is not necessary to use an attorney but it will help on every phase

As Mr. Cohen said me same thing and send me an e-mail mentioning that IT degree is still good for Quebec and you just need a basic french which I can learn while processing my application. He said me I do not need a job offer and relatives back in canada for QSW program. I also want to get a review of his legal representation before I proceed my case. He is asking for $2995.00 in four installments; to begin it right away he wants 850.00, and to send the application to Quebec immigration he wants another + 950 + 600 + 595 and so on till 2995 USD.

That was the same
calculation that he sent me as well. In addition, there is also immigration application and other fees around 1450.
I was getting various queries from simple google search. Some say he has no negative rating and some have negative ratings.
I was also unable to find the attorney name in the list of Quebec govt approved
immigration attorneys..,
Not sure whether to trust and start the process with him or just do myself. It does not seem that complicated, just a matter of throwing the application fee and see what follows.
