Nice to see a Flash Mob in Nepal. Kudos to whoever organized it. For the next one, the mob could probably use some more people.

That could be Indian street dance shooting or Indian documentory shooting. I dont think Nepalese are doing Flashmob in Indian songs. If so, it is not good. Too bad. Don't thay have any Nepali modern dancing songs? They could have played Deepak Bajracharya's song.

I am quite not sure why some people are shouting at hindi songs.
They played all kind of songs Nepalese, hindi and English.
What's wrong with that?
For me, I can see them dancing on the music but not the language.
Please people , clear you mind!!!!
we can't blame entire music industry just because some dhotiz fked up our country.

I had to comment on this because lot of people think that it is just a music or it is just a serial but forget to see the larger impact all this playing hindi song and watchin hindi movies and tele-serials are doing to our society. Yes, it is art and as such we should respect it but not at the cost of our nationality and not at the cost of nation. I am not against hindi songs but it does bother me to the core when Cartoon Network in our country is being shown in hindi and Nepali schools are teaching hindi national idols. Again it is not one hindi song or the one hindi music, it is the our mentality and our societal gravitation towards it. We should view this in totality of other larger things that are happening in our soiceity as as such I reject such programs and such music!
If I were to be more blunt, I would have said what Dhirajroja said above!

Dhhirajojha and lll_lll, learn how to type in Nepali first, post messages in Nepali, then come and brag about your love to Nepali language and culture. Hypocrites.. Let people do what they enjoy doing. And by the way, it probably were Indians doing all the dancing, because frankly speaking, we Nepalese don't have the guts, commitment or vision to do something like that. We'd rather drink beer, play cards and waste our time taking naps than do something creative.

OMG. I am so sorry GajabChaBa. I am a freaking hypocrite for not typing in Nepali. I will make sure I type in Nepali first so that my thoughts and my actions would be regarded more nationalistic and help me to be branded as such by your supreme self. Jai hos sarkar GajabChaBa!!
Freaking Moron! What do you know about me except from the few lines I typed to judge me as a hypocrite? I am not defined by those few lines I wrote and not by you, at the least!

india is imposing all various kinds of imperialism over all of its neighbours in south asia and this just an example of a cultural imperialsim. the open border policy benifits india more than it does nepal. it is through this open border policy that india has influenced the trade, commerce and culture of nepal. we are being controlled. and they dont even have to work for it..the mechanism is functioning on its own. they knew at the beginning.. when they proposed..this open border policy that one day indian nation with a population of a billion would eventually invade nepal on all fronts( be it culture, trade, commerce, economy or any other)..without even mobilising a single unit of indian Army. and whatever we are seeing today is the result of the open border treaty that our vison impaired leaders had signed in the past. nepal has definitely benifitted a little from this treaty but it is india which has made fortune out of it in nepal.
Perhaps, our immigration department has the record of each and every foreign visitor that comes to Nepal from other countries, but not from the visitors of Indian origin. Perhaps, our immigration department has the record of how many Americans or Chinese or British or nationals from other countries have come here and are staying in Nepal, but the department has no idea about how many Indians are residing in Nepal. It is because there is no system of any record keeping in the Nepal-India borders. this is how this backstabbing so called neighbour of ours has impaired us, colonised us and made us dependent on them. this can be reversed...and for that we will need leaders who can realize the truth and work against the indian colonization that is prevalent in every aspect of nepali life. our soverignity and national independence had been stepped on and crushed long time ago. its just that people are realizing it now.
i feel sad!

III_III,
I wanted you to get back at me for calling you a Hypocrite. You see, that was my subtle message. Just like you don't need to type in Nepali to express your thoughts and should not be called a hypocrite for doing so, majority of Nepali who seem to favor Indian media over our own should not be compared to be doing that at the cost of our nationality or the cost of our nation. As much Indian garbage as we watch/listen to, we will always hate being associated to India/Indian culture. Watching cartoon in hindi or having to learn Hindi in school will not change who we are in our core.
This thing started as a thread for FlashMob in Nepal. FlashMob in Nepal is unheard of. Instead of making something positive out of it or appreciating the efforts (no matter who the dancers were or what songs they were dancing) people put in to perform such a difficult act in a setting such as Durbar-square, we are here discussing nationalism and influences of India on our culture. FlashMob is just a mean to entertain people (just look at the smiling faces of crowd enjoying it), there is no propaganda behind it and lets keep it that way.

I have no complains about the kind of music used, but I would have liked it better had they used Nepali music. Maybe I guess this was also a support for Hindi as a national language along with Nepali. But, I mean all the marriage ceremonies I have been to in Nepal, the songs played are predominantly Hindi.

@ Gajabchaba: Pardon me but I can hardly follow your convoluted logic. Maybe that is also because I am not nationalistic enough to understand your sound logic.
@ BathroomCoffee: Just shouting a sentence along at the top of your voice does not make it true. As I have mentioned above, hindi as a expression of art is not a big deal to me but when it is being used as something that is inseperable of who we are and a daily ritual, then it begins to bother me a lot. Catch_meh_if_u_can has most of the things right about why this is occuring but one thing that we have been good at is keep the level of Indian popularity in Nepal relatively low among general population and Indian has not been able to get a good return on its investments. Either way, I think you seem to underestimate the level of gravity this issue deserves.

Also, someone said that watching CN won't change who we are at the core. Go tell that to 5-6 year old kid in Nepal who grows up watching hindi cartoons in Nepal. I acknowledge that I might get a lot of flack for this, but if I were to be a hardliner I'd argue that we are in an initial process of cultural genocide!

You know what nepal needs. It needs roads, people who are willing to built it, we need infrastructures and people willing to do it themself. Cultural genocide???-e grew up learning abc, forced to speak in english in classes, what do you call it, since it is america or its more advanced country, it changes the whole scenario right. Indian jasto dress garne paakhe huncha bhaiya huncha and the one who dresses up like blacks are sudenly hip and cool. When do we learn that its not the language we speak or songs we listen that makes our country great and prosperous. Its the common good and common ground that makes us prosperous in the long run. Anyways we look like dhoti, we worship same god, we eat similar food we play same sports, what is the shame in listening to same music.

III_III,
you nailed it myann!!
Im not a indian culture Hater either. i dont hate indian people. the question here is not about hating india or loving them...the real issue is saving our nation and culture from the indian Colonization before we realize its too late..and from my point of view it looks like an automatic time set plan..which will function till we remain dependent on india for everything, and till they dont regard us as equals...we can be equals if we stand for it,the leadership has to... just like how king mahendra stood as a leader against the foriegn invervention in our internal affairs. he was a nationalistic leader..and we all know how indian regime hated his guts. we also know, how they are intervening in our internal affairs..creating hassles everyday for our citizens at the border. terrorizing them. threatening them. killing them and recently the row over hindi language's status of 2nd national language of nepal...who do you think is sponsoring these controversies unheard in the last 2 millenia of our nation's history..and yet ,nepalese are dancing to the tunes of their song with full jest and fun. what could be more idiotic.
the revolution against this imperialistic culture, invading our culture has to start from the grassroot level. every nepali has to understand what being a nepali is and i know for sure that is why in the past when we just had nepal television and radio nepal. they aired those nationalistic songs which every single nepali upon hearing would have a sudden rush of blood within and a feeling of national pride would take over...and i felt that even as a kid... kids now dont even know few lines of those songs. NTV, radio nepal probably are still airing them, but who is listening???. kids are watching cartoon network in Hindi, moms are watching sitcoms in hindi, dads are watching AAj tak in hindi. sisters are dancing on the streets on hindi music..phew!! notinng is going to happpen until people realize how the dominance of indian media has caused a havoc on our culture and virtually every aspect of a nepali life. they are invaders, who are taking advantage of the innocence of our people, and absence of a strong leadership.
SABLAI CHETANA VAYA!!!!!!!

DhirajOjha," this is a thread where people voice their opinion against any subject posted here............like you have posted your comment every one has the right to do so." Lol
Mr Ojha Really ? ha ha ha This is what I call eskewed sense of Doukwashi. According to your logic... they should totally ban Bollywood, and Hollywood Movies in Nepal then huh !! ha ha ha Cause its does not represend Nepali culture. LOL Fugging hypocrite probably watches Bollywood movies all the time. ha ha ha Yestaaa khattey haru lai ke bhanney, THINK before you open your Diarrhea mouth MORON !!
lll_lll,"Just shouting a sentence along at the top of your voice does not make it true." My one sentence is to the point, I don't intend to writa an essay or a paper on the subject. As I have mentioned above, hindi as a expression of art is not a big deal to me but when it is being used as something that is inseperable of who we are and a daily ritual, then it begins to bother me a lot. Whether you like it or not our entire socioeconomic infrastructure is fully influenced by Hindu culture. So the Kali temple in India is no different than Kali Temple in Nepal. But according to you logic one should not worship the Kali temple in India because it is not Nepali. I beg to differ on this because the moment some new design of salwar Kurta or sarii is displaced in the bollywood movie, the markets in Nepal gets flooded with that design. Same thing here, after every Nepali event they play all the bollywood songs and people dance to it.
Above all This should not be a priority for us. There are bigger fish to fry out there. Look at the state of Nepal. I don't think some people dancing on the street to hindi songs is a big deal. One should be free to dance to what ever music they want. There is no rule of law that dictates that one should only dance to Nepali music. To restrict this would infringe upon the freedom of speech. Lot of people died in 1989 and 1990 to have this freedom, and I for one am not going to stand on the sideline and have these people prescribe what we can and cannot do.
