All the other nations in the world are marching forward but Nepal has been going backwards. I think China should take over not just Tibet but also Nepal as well so that atleast development will take place in the region.

If you feel disgusted by what anura8 suggested, we should equally feel disgusted by all the foreign aids (alms) that we receive for our so called development purposes. We are a beggar nation. Unless we don't stop begging, we are always in the mercy of the donar nations. We have never been a sovereign people or a sovereign nation. We have always been a slave.

"budhi bhaneko ek thopa choina. ya we should let poor kids in nepal starve to death b/c we cannot let our ego hurt and take foreign aids. " - Gunda

Gunda bro, we have been taking foreign aids for the past how many years....and yet our people are miserable more than ever. Most of the times those aids end up in the pocket of those who have authority over us. It is always in their best interest  to keep our nation poor and to continue getting the foreign aid. On the other hand, these aids always come with string attached and with some vested interests of the foreign donors. This will always give the donar nations, their dictates over us. Instead of working our efforts on to be a self-reliant nation, we seek remedies in foreign aid. A beggar will remain a beggar entire life, if he does not change the way he functions and yes his children will always be at the mercy of the alms his father collects. If the father fearing his children starving to death, doesn't seek other alternatives, he will never get himself and his children out of their miserable life. That's what our nation is suffering. We ought to say 'no thank you' if we ever want to be a real Independant nation. I think you must be taking pride knowing our nation is the poorest nations relying on the alms of other nations and boosting your ego.  In the past, our people have been slaves of monarchies and Rana regimes. Presently our country survives at the mercy of the foreigners (foreigner's policies, donations, aids etc). That is slavery to me. One doesn't need to be in shackles and chains to be a slave.

nepwanted bro, yes the topic is different but if you read what anura8  has written

ll the other nations in the world are marching forward but Nepal has been going backwards. I think China should take over not just Tibet but also Nepal as well so that atleast development will take place in the region. "

He has touched the essence of sovereignty of a nation that's why we all went a-bomb in his post. His post points out that atleast for the welfare of our nation in the name of "development" we should give up our sovereignty to the foreign nation which gundaa bro seems to like it since he also wants to continue receiving foreign aids to save our "poor kids in nepal" from starving to death. My personal view regarding our sovereignty exists only in papers and illusions. We are so dependent on the foreigners that we could be called a modern day slaves. If the power-to-be wants monarchy in our country, They can establish it, if They want "democracy", They can establish it, if They want "republic", They and only They can establish it and we think "We the People" brought the change in the country. This is all because we have become so dependent to their foreign aids, their wills and their policies.

It's time to say NO and stand up on our own feet. If only we could learn from the South Koreans....

Not necessary mother Nepal has to be in part of China to regain progress as more over Nepal being Hindu country...

Dr Dhakal says; the smaller the size of a government, the easier it is to make it responsive, accountable, and self-healing”, . He further emphasized, “A democratic state can become stronger only by institutionalizing justice, freedom, empowerment, and inclusion but not by mere carving of geographical boundaries.Dr Pramod Dhakal, Executive Director of Canada Forum for Nepal, presented his model of “distributed federalism” which, he says, is the most viable option for Nepal’s unity and progress.

He asserted, “A society fractured by conflict, oppression and deprivation cannot develop institutions of democracy without massively devolving the central power. If remained a unitary state, Nepal is in a danger of giving rise to authoritarian rule, perennially divided society, and recurring conflicts.” Giving example of post 1987 Sri Lanka, he opined against the idea of creating small number of provinces as a means of bringing the government closer to the people.

“The political and economic corruptions are curtailing the process of institutional development today and only way to mitigate them is to devolve the power into numerous small governments, which could be managed by common people.

Bhim Karki, Texas, USA, spoke on the issues of restructuring of the state. Citing the flaws of restructurings done from the time of Rana regime to 1990, he said, “All past restructurings of Nepal focused on geographical and political allotment with a primary intention of centralizing the power and maintaining the control over the population.”

According to Mr Karki, “The new state must be restructured on the basis of federalism and inclusive democracy thereby permitting people to be empowered to advance their own aspirations.” He cited that the strikes called by various groups in a daily basis are clear indications that many people do not feel represented in the affairs of the nation. ....

anura8, shut your pie hole, what makes you think that Nepal should be a part of China ( Zhong f**king Guo), have you ever lived in China? Go and live there and ask the citizens of your beloved neighboring country where Nepal is located? 90% of Chinese people have no clue where Nepal is. There so many regions in China that are underdeveloped than Nepal's rural region. We don't need any other country in the world  to take over and develop our country. We have the resources but we are not using in properly. There should be big change in the
bureaucracy in Nepal.

Sajha fan, that is a good song.  I remember hearing it on Radio Nepal long long time ago.  Gopal Yonzon's rachanaa, sangit ra swar, hoina?

I have to disagree with Nas.  International Aid has done lot of good in Nepal.  Granted there could be more productive result and less corruption in that arena, but it is what it is.  And the net effect is overwhelming positive.

I like Dr. Dhakal's idea of "small government" but I am totally against the system of democracy. For me it is a system of mobocracy where 51% exercise their will on 49%, a form of government where three wolves and a sheep vote on what's for dinner. Simply stated, a democracy is a dictatorship of the majority. Socrates was executed by a democracy: though he harmed no one, the majority found him intolerable.A democracy is majority rule and is destructive of liberty because there is no law to prevent the majority from trampling on individual rights. Whatever the majority says goes! A lynch mob is an example of pure democracy in action. There is only one dissenting vote, and that is cast by the person at the end of the rope.

A certain Professor Alexander Fraser Tytler, nearly two centuries ago, had this to say about Democracy: " A Democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of Government. It can only exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves largess out of public treasury.  From that moment on the  majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that Democracy always collapses over a loose fiscal policy, always to be followed by a Dictatorship."

I prefer Constitutional Republic like in the united States of America. However, the good old republic has now been hijacked and replaced by democracy. The founding fathers of America infact hated democracy. A republic and a democracy are identical in every aspect except one. In a republic the sovereignty is in each individual person. In a democracy the sovereignty is in the group. In a republic the group only has advisory powers; the sovereign individual is free to reject the majority group-think.

Lennin said "Democracy is indispensable to socialism." I am suprised by some sajhites who hates communism but favors socialism and when it comes to the word "democracy", oh... they just love it.

Democracy leads to socialism which ultimately leads to communism /authoritarian dictatorship. We should stop advocating for democracy.

Riten bro, yes the international alms have fed our people but those alms have inturn kept us begging for more alms to survive. I see a clear insult to Nepalese people, I don't know why you don't see it that way.  When has begging ever been a matter of dignity and pride ?

"Analysis by William Easterly, and Raghuram Rajan at the International Monetary Fund, indicates zero impact from Western aid on growth in poor nations."

Has Foreign Aid Influenced Economic Freedom?

"For more than 50 years individual countries and international agencies have given aid to third world countries to promote economic development, yet poverty still persists in many recipient nations. This raises two important questions. Does the receipt of aid lead to increases or decreases in economic freedom, and are increases in economic freedom rewarded with more aid or punished with reduced aid?

The failure of aid to directly promote development in impoverished countries is well documented. Boone (1996), Vasquez (1998), Easterly and Levine (2001), and Ovaska (2003) all find that development aid fails to systematically improve growth rates. Easterly (2001) summarizes World Bank aid policies that have failed to promote development. Although aid has generally failed to promote development.

P.T. Bauer long contended that intergovernmental aid increases the size and scope of recipient governments, contributes to the politicization of life, negatively impacts economic performance, and is, on balance, an anti-market force (1971, 1978, 1984, 1990).2 His long list of anti-market policies to which aid contributes includes expulsion of productive groups, suppression of private trade, restriction of the inflow of foreign capital, confiscation of property, forced collectivization, takeover of foreign enterprises, discouragement of agriculture, support of unviable projects, and import substitution (1990, 46). "

One day I am hoping our generation will get rid of our beggar mentality like the Iranians have.

Nepwanted bro, so our pride should allow to treat our nation as a beggar nation by accepting the alms from foreigners ? As I told you, we don't need to hand our country to India or China to  be their slaves. Do you think Bhutan is an independant nation? Bhutanization of our nation is enough to be a slave nation. That will be the ultimate fate of our nation if we keep on depending on the foreigners and their aids. They will make us their slaves by their consent not by force.  It starts with economic enslavement.

It does not matter how much aids are being utilized... 20%...50%, whatever. I am reminded of a beggar who won a car as a lottery prize. The next day, he went for begging, driving his car. That's exactly the kind of mentality we have.
