Dalai Lama more popular than Pope

HAMBURG: Germans like the Dalai Lama more than they do their native-born Pope Benedict XV.

A study, carried out for the magazine Der Spiegel, was published this weekend and showed that 44% of those questioned saw the Tibetan spiritual leader as a role model, while only 42% attributed the same qualities to the pope.

The Dalai Lama enjoyed a particularly high popularity rating among the young and better educated, according to the survey.

The Tibetan leader, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for his efforts to achieve a non-violent solution to the Tibetan problem, is due to pay a 10-day visit to Germany from Thursday. He will deliver lectures and attend a congress of Buddhist monks and nuns. - Sapa-dpa

That's right. He is the symbol of peace and who doesn't love peace.

No matter how quickly Tibet was loosing its identity or Tibetans were learning Mandarin or Cantonese to survive in their own soil he is still respected...

my mistake. i’d no idea Mr. Bush didn win peace prize....i thought he was another Nobel laureate as the Norwegian foreign minister had voted him twice for that...nonetheless, he was nominated along with Mr. Blair for the prize and only the nominees get the reward....tyo Norwegian le pkd gang lai pani vote garne ho ki...ghumnalai bolaisakyo...

anyway people are more interested to know who is there in the gala round not who won shanti puraskar...

दलाईलामा क्याथोलोक पोप भन्दा पपुलर छन बन्ने कुरा झूट हो । यसको कारण छ :

तिब्बती लामा धर्मका नेता दलाईलामा , कम्युनिष्ट चीन विरोधी भएका कारणले युरोप र अमेरिकी समर्थनमा बढी चर्चित बनाइएका हुन , एउटा धार्मिक नेता भएर आफ्नो अनुयायीहरूको मान्य हुनु स्वाभाविक भए पनि र दलाई लामा एउटा सम्मानित धार्मिक नेता भए पनि , विश्वलाई असर पार्ने उनको शान्तिका लागि योगदान के हो भन्ने कुरामा कोही प्रष्ट छैन । यदि दलाई लामा चीन कम्युनिष्ट चीन बिरोधी हुँदैनथे भने, न त उनी अहिले जस्तो चर्चामा हुन्थे न त शान्तिको नोबेल पुरस्कार नै जित्थे । रक्तपिपाशु हिंसावादी कम्युनिष्टहरूले दिएको ब्लेसिङ इन डिस्गाइज हो दलाई लामाको विश्व व्यक्तित्व ।

तर , यसका बावजूद दलाई लामा एउटा असल विचार बोकेका धार्मिक नेता हुन भन्ने कुरामा दुविधा छैन । तर उनी सबै भन्दा ठूला हुन वा पोप भन्दा बढी पपुलर छन भन्न खोज्नु ,बिनाकारण धर्म माथि राजनीति थोपरेर तेरो धर्म भन्दा मेरो धर्म ठीक अनि मेरो धार्मिक नेता भन्दा मेरो बढी पपुलर छ भन्ने बच्कना विचार प्रस्तुत गर्नु हो । धर्म र धार्मिक नेता ठीक र ठूला हुन भने सबै हुन हैन भने सबै मार्क्स बाजेले बने जस्तो अफिम र अफिमका मालिक हुन ।

तर यो सायमी जि यस्ता यस्ता फित्तुर लेखेर , मेरो जात ठिक , मेरो धर्म ठिक , मेरो काठमाण्टु ठिक, फलानो बढी पपुलर , र फलानो ठीक , अनि आँफूलाई रिस उठेका जति सबै बेठिक भन्दै गाली फलाक्न बाहेक केही आउन्न कि क्या हो , हँ ?

कहाँको जनमतबाट यस्तो निचोड पायौ तिम्ले हँ ?
