Official guide to GMAT prepared by the same authority that administer the test is undoubtedly the best one because it has questions that apperead on the test before.

Barrons is good in general. It helps a lot with writing essays and the basics.

But, I would suggest Kaplan. Theirs is better if you are targeting a higher score.
They have better techniques and tougher questions which will help us at the end.
Also, instead of going through a lot of books I would suggest practising more mock tests.
Mock tests will help with timing and everything else.

official guide for GMAT is the best....barron's is just a waste of time and kaplan ia unnecessarily difficult....official guide is a collection of real questions....

.
Let a friend send you a GMAT CD to you from Nepal or transfer the GMAT learning CD data to you. You can get it there for 2 Dollars .. cheaper than book and it is interactive.
It tells you if you are ready for EXAM.

Focusing on writing part is I think waste of time. Nobody really cares about GMAT writing score. So, whatever helps math and verbal would be good use of time.

The Official Guide for GMAT is the first book you should buy! After you are comfortable with the material in it, try Kaplan's book. Kaplan's book has material that is a little on the tougher side, but this will help after you have a grasp on the basics, will help you score high!
Good luck!

I think you have enough time Shabi, if you study diligently and give up your social life (like I did) for about a month you should get a good score. For most Nepalis the quant portion should be a breeze... the verbal might be a little more difficult than expected. I took my GMAT at the end of last year and forums like testmagic.com and beatthegmat.com helped a lot.
Many people usually recommend about 3 months to prepare, but I guess it just depends on what level you're starting out at.
Good luck!

I took my GMAT here in the US. I used the Official Guide to GMAT and Kaplan. Don't spend too much time on the quant portion if you're good at maths. The verbal portion -make sure you take at least a couple of practice tests. After you are comfortable with the material move on to the Kaplan book this will help you score high..

Good luck!
