Most of the people might regard China as a growing superpower. This may be true to some extent but as long as the United States control the battlefield there can be no other super power. In fact, Soviet Union was just a hoax and it was never as powerful as United States during any period of the cold war. And now China with a massive army and the world's largest airforce is struggling to even control their own waters. Chinese Navy has never seen combat, their equipments are poor, training sucks and their art of war is based on primitive philosophy. The nuclear weapons are real threat to the U.S but the American defence shield is soon to be in service and this should be able to shoot down any Chinese ICBMs and Satellites (with the exception of few Russian ones). So it looks as though the U.S is gonna maintain its role as the world's only superpower for a long time.

U r somewhat right there telling soviets were really not a threat to US. Yeah Americans could have bombed Stalin's russia into ashes, but now the tide of time has changed drastically.

well my friend, you just said China is a big problem to U.S. Our discussion here is military in nature. I dont see any treats from China in the near future or any time else. If U.S and China were to go at war, the first thing U.S would do is try and control the Chinese sky. This might be difficult cause China has the largest airforce in the world. But note something-70% of the Chinese aircrafts are either MiG 19s or Mig 21s. These aircrafts developed during the 1960s have no BVR(beyond visual range) capacity. This means they are useless in modern air combat agianst F-14s,F-15s,F-16s,F-18s and F-22s. The Chinese airforce has a bulk of Su-27s that can match f-16s but again since the Chinese depend upon the Russians for missiles, these Su-27s use AA-10 Almano missiles that are useless.(Gulf War showed that, Iraqi Mig-23s with AA-10 were no match for American F-15s). Also a very important aspect of modern warfare is precision guided weapons. Chinese have no reliable laser designation pods and their radar guidence and heat seekers suck. Iam not a great American fan, they are ordinary yankees for me but Iam speaking of the reality here. Chinese can never match American technlogy in any aspects for a long time to come.

Not only nuclear weapons, but air missiles (aircrafts) have also undergone major reformation towards modernization. Not to forget that they still have World's largest military which is being trained with modern approach. So and So forth.

China has successfully demonstrated their satellite shooting missile that can destroy any satellite in the space, which is enough to zeopardize american edge of technological lead when they enter into serious confrontation. No other country has that technology tested successfully. USA and Russia are believed to have that knowledge in theory but yet to verify if their knowledge works fine. In Afganistan, Kosovo, and Iraq war, they have uncovered numourous examples of failures of their laser guided missiles. Therefore having advanced technology does not guarantee a successful mission.

Also, China is the only country that is successful to monitor activities in internet and control and pollute radio-waves in their interest, which puts them in better shape when they require to defend them.

Besides that, nobody knows the strength of chinese intellegence in foreign land. In the power struggle, the intellegence plays major role than the technology. Successful campaign of KGB was believed to be in behind leading-military-strength of Soviets. Revealed strength of chinese military and technological advance such as space-travel, long-range heavy carrier missiles tests and guided missile technology must be backed by their intellegence and innovative brains. One can easily guess the information from USA leaks to China through chinese immigrants in the USA but the opposite is not that easy due to reserved nature of chinese government and people. You will understand this better if you get chance to work closely with chinese people.

When both of the power have respect and fear for each another as a global power player, they do not try to get into war. History has proved it. So neither china would attack US, nor US is gonna say any bad abpout china. This is why US never talks about chinese communism and it tries to be friendly and they(UN) don't recognize taiwan as a nation. Taiwan was in UN once but china showed its muscle and US and othe power back down from the UN table.

As far as anti satellite weapons are concerned they are impoted versions from russia, KA-122 or something used by russian MiG-31 forhound. And the main thing, If USA wants, it can drop its 82 airborne diivision and other armies within 24 hours in CHinese soil but there is no way Chinese army can reach USA soil.

1. U.S has a long tradition of being the world's most technologically sophisticated nation in the world
2. China doesnt have enough local technology and foundations to wage a big war
3. China has the tendency to unsucessfully copy the military technology from U.S( it tried to copy unsucessful versions of Sidewinders.
4. Chinese have never experienced combat after the second world war.
