So you want a son? Or will a daughter do? I was at the Nepali "Tihar" party other day and we were having this conversation which eventually lead to the topic of 'what do you want - a boy or a girl'. One of them clearly said - yes I wanted a son. To which on other said - What? In this day and age, you still think like this? Then the conversation carried on with each one having his say. My view was - Each one has his own priority and I dont care if some wanted a son and some wanted a daughter and other did not care about a son or daughter. And i think there is nothing wrong to think that yesssss I want a son! Why should one conform to the politically correct view of saying - "oh it does not matter...." WHEN IT DOES MATTER to most Nepali people? What say you?

I agree. Boys and girls are equal - can't believe we even have to qualify our views with a statement like this- and there is nothing wrong in wanting either. Not that it is in your control to begin with - you've got to accept whatever it is that you get. :)

I heard somewhere that before the children are born the dad often wants a son and the mom a daughter. After the kids are born, the son gets closer to the mom and the daughter to the dad. Not sure how often that is true but the point is does it even matter what you want?

If it is just the matter of preference, then it is fine-son or daugther. But the thing here is, most Nepali people choose to have son because they think a boy is BETTER than a girl! In that context, why it would NOT matter if it is a boy. I do not mind if it is a son, but I would love to have at least one daugther among my two kids (in the future)! ;) :)

"But the thing here is, most Nepali people choose to have son because they think a boy is BETTER than a girl! In that context, why it would NOT matter if it is a boy. " (sighs) If you allow things like that to affect the way you think, then that's your choice, more power to you, and I can see where you might be coming from. But for me, and I hope for many others, it is irrelevant if some moron thinks a son is superior to a daughter - why the hell should I even consider the viewpoints of an idiot like that when I express my own choices in a social setting?

(sigh) Captain, you did catch the last part of the first paragraph, but you missed this: "If it is just the matter of preference, then it is fine-son or daugther."

I didn't miss it - my last comment was intentionally on the previous sentence because you said something very interesting in that sentence where you challenged a previous point but then you quickly cloaked it by that last sentence. I quite agree with your last sentence and don't have any bones to pick with it - so I chose not to comment on it. My point still stands that opinions of such despicable people are not even worth serious consideration.

Alright, it's up to you how to conceive and interpret the things. And, me too. I too stand on my simple and plain logic: Either son or daughter is okay, but if your choice is the outcome of male dominated society, you're wrong. And, for me, that society is not simply "some moron."

Fully agree with the first and second points. On the third point: Yes, it is pretty obvious from your comments what 'society' means to you. Take that whatever way you want.

And, for me, that society is not simply "some moron." - That is precisely the point that you don't seem to get! I can guess which categroy you belong to, what a pity to see you justify yourself in this manner.

If you try to exploit the meaning, you can come up with cobweb of words and establish that as the logic. I simply mean that there is a difference between one "moron" and a society that constitutes majority of illiterate people (in your standards, maybe, morons) that has been living the particular way of life for centuries because of the ignorance. I don't need your pity, haude ko bhai, but I would be interested to know where you categorize me. Some "moron" who thinks that it is okay to have our own personal preference, but that preference shouldn't be dominated by some hypocrite?

i don't think preference is an issue. having kids is a matter of responsibility- plalin and simple. maybe what they should be asking is "am i ready to have [a] kid/kids?" :) won't u agree?

Let me make it clear first. i am a very selfish person. :P so given a choice, i would surely go for my preferences. i want a daughter. i even pray to god these days (although i am single :P), to give me a daughter. the reason being simple. daughters tend to love their parents more than sons. :P. although i love my parents more than any daughter would, but i still like to have a daughter. here is what my daughter should be like. 1) eyes like mine :p. deep engaging and craving for love. :P :P 2) nose like my soon to be wife's :P. i assume she will have cute nose unlike mine :P 3) lips just like mine, red, luscious but little thinner than mine :P 4) height like mine. again i assume my soon to be wife's will be shorter than me. 5) hands and legs like my wife's again. long, silky and smooth :P 6) boobs and ass just like my wife's. cute round ass and not so small boobs :P :P but not so big either :P 7) smile just like my wife's :P 8) hair just like mine. long, stout and silky. :P DAUGHTER ROCKS!.....Son # 2...:P LooTe
