Hi, I am working in IT and earn about 95k per annum. I am getting tired of the stress at work and want to do something on my own. What should I do? Something that will let me earn a lot of money. Any business I can open in US? (doesn't need to be IT related). Any suggestions would be appreciated. For a young girl like me, you may find me too ambitious...but that is what I am :-) Kattie

that depends on your interest, what you love doing, what you've thought so far, what are you financial goals, stuff like that,,,the point is u'll always succeed if you do what you love. and by the way, no u're not so ambitions, i've seen ppl more ambitious than you. ambitions doenst come with age, it comes with your perception. good luck.

Thanks mansion. The truth is I still don't know yet what I love doing. After college, when I started working in IT, I loved it for some time but now getting little tired of it. I think I would like to open some business where I have total control. And where money is. And the initial investment would be just around 100k. I saw in some thread about opening a consultancy company which sounded very good to me. On the other hand, I know it is too competetive. Doesn't mean that I am afraid of competetion, but as mentioned by someone in that thread, it really needs lots of networking and contacts. But that may be what I would want to do. But not sure at all. Can you advise? I am in mid twenties and will be getting married in about couple of years. But I want to be independent by then (when I say independent, I mean I have my own business). How difficult would that be?I know I am very competetive and I can rise. I rose from an analyst to senior IT manager in two years. I want to rise more but with my own business now. Thanks, Kattie

Thanks Sidster. In your honest opinion, do you think I am too young to open a consultancy company and probably should wait few more years? Also, I don't have any business degree. Will that be a problem? Hi Bidhan, my intention wasn't that. Sorry I didn't mean that. Kattie

katrina- well the only thing i can tell you is what would i do if i was you. you are just thinking about openning your business, and so far you ahve no clue what you wanna get into, well thats normal-coz you are in your first phase, the first thing you need to do is, take your time. when i mean take your time , i mean, do research, and use your qualification as a resource. see you are already in IT, so you know what you do, and whats its all about. but again anybusiness or atelat most of the business..unless its retail, depends on who you know. so as you have mentioned, you are a lil interested in IT business, you'd want to start by networking, join networking groups, there are a lot, such as COC, BNI, www.meetup.com, well there're a lot of them, go mingle with ppl, try to learn as much as you can about various induslty, before you decide. goodluck. dont jump into conclusion.

Hi Phatte, How did you get a loan of 200k approved? I have a good credit-history (810) but I don't think I could get that amount of loan approved for business. Kattie

Katie, Im in a late twenties and i have MBA. I am thinking of getting into business in next five years. I dont think i will be ready until for various reasons like personal, financial, maturity, business exposure, and time to research. I cant really suggest u wehter u need to have the business degree or certain age. U would just need to know that urself. U dont really need connections for that. U can start as a third tier consulting company, meaning u provide consultants to other consulting companies and they will place ur ppl with their clients with some commission. There are several other ways to market ur consultants as well. I mean u need to start it small and i have seen companies growing to 50 consultants withing couple years. So it really depends on ur team. U need to have a strong marketing team, Cunning HR and strong motivations. Consulting doesnt require huge investment either. Just time and motivations and may be 10,000k for registering ur business and renting an office to start with. U need to open ur company with some capital though. Need to show enough cahs to sponser h1s.
