It is encouraging for us as Nepalese community living outside of Nepal to see so many individuals taking initiatives regarding raising funds for the deceased Nepalese students. I would like to request the ANA (Association of Nepalese in the Americas) to show their support in these causes as well. We all know ANA has been involved in organizing yearly conventions. If they don't use any of their money raised for causes like these involving Nepalese people in the US, what other likely causes should they be waiting for to help out? This is not intended as a negative feedback for the ANA, but a positive suggestion for them. Regards, San

Totally agree with San! ANA needs to step up and lend the helping hands in these situation! If they are only there for the summer Conventions and to make money... we may need to rethink before making any contribution or even participation to such events organized by them. We like to hear something from ANA! P.S. Keep this thread alive!

A typical nepali mentality. It's sad to see nepalese are unchanged (for positive reason) no matter where they go. I agree with all the words written above. Will it be a good idea if we try to flood their (ANA's) email address with a request to help recent nepalese victims and their families?

Not only ANA, but there are so many other big associations such as ANMA, NASEA. They used to raise funds and even used to send emails about raising funds for other activities, and also even ask to do some volunteer work. But why am I not getting any emails from them after such sad incidents and that involves Nepalese. Its really a pity.

Good call! What does ANA do anyways? Aren't they supposed to help out during these kinds of incidents? Are they only there to organize the convention? Is the ANA Committee only there to pat each other on the back. I saw them during the convention in Dallas and they were giving each other accolades calling them on stage congratulating each other. But now when the time for action comes they sit quietly like ...??? In the last convention, I read that the income was over 70 thousand US dollars, and the cost itself was over 60 thousand US dollars. Does it cost over 60 thousand US dollars to organize an event like that? No matter what, it's time for ANA to step up.

I think ANA is not an allience coliation organiztion. However it seems like ANA seems what Bhupi Sherchan has said " ghumney khursey mathi andho manchi". If ANA not a greed of power then what is it?????? I really doubt it's an organiztion for us. New year started off with the death of Nepalese. In such sad incident, ANA remained silence. Obvously good ideas and plan and cooperation should needed to run an organiztion. and shuld be circulated which has seen in SAJHA. Seems we are very connected . we all mourn on demise Nepalese (we are one who knew the news quicky than other sleeping neplese). Recnetly I came acrross the idea which i would like to share. My idea to be make SAJHA as organiztion. Based on our desicions and weakness of ANA, I chose San the president (0f course hes the president) we the members( and of no doubt!) Shaja rocks, we rock!

Dear San dai and all, This post has come to the attention of Association of Nepalese in Minnesota (ANMN) and we feel compelled to respond to the concerns regarding ANA's performance raised here. As many of you know, ANMN was just involved in coordinating the funeral services of the three Nepali students who died in a car accident in Southern Minnesota. We received pledges of support from various individuals and organizations during this difficult time, including ANA. We feel that we must give credit where credit is due and testify in defense of ANA that they were actively supporting us as soon as the news of the accident became public. ANA was in touch with the ANMN president, Mr. Bijay Shrestha and they pledged us financial support right from the beginning. We are still in touch with them. The bills for the cremation ceremony are coming in and ANA will bear part of the expenses. An e-mail thanking all the individuals and organizations, including ANA, who came through at this difficult time was sent out to the ANMN e-mail subscribers. We must also thank you San dai for using this public forum to spread the news and setting up the paypal account to enable people to contribute from different parts of the country. In fact, Nepalese all over the U.S. and abroad expressed their profound sorrow and showed strong desire to contribute anyway they can to ensure honorable and dignified funerals for these three young adults. ANMN would like to take a moment to thank all the individuals and organizations in MN, all over the U.S. and Canada for their kind support. ANMN will make public a financial report once all the transactions are accounted for. If there is any good news in this tragedy, it is that that even if we are thousands of miles away from our own friends and families, we have knowingly and unknowingly, created a new set of friends and families away from home who will come together in support in times of our own needs. We are sure Bedija, Nishma and Utsav's families will take some comfort in the fact that although they could not be with their son and daughters, their son and daughters made their last journey with friends, families and even strangers who were deeply moved by their deaths. We would like to let them know that we were not strangers to them when they needed us and we are all praying for the eternal peace of their souls. Sincerely, Sugam Shrestha Secretary Association of Nepalese in Minnesota
