And one dreams of the day when, a) All Nepalis are connected to one another inside Nepal through highways, roads, ropeways, cable cars, and, all sizes of airports so that people can move/travel from one place to another place, from one pahad to another pahad easily. b) All Nepalis are connected to one another (and to the rest of the world) through various technologies (with globally falling prices): land phones, mobile phones, FM radios, wi-fi Internet connections, and what not. And the government's role is NOT to keep prices of commodities/utilities high, to retain those as luxuries affordable only to a tiny few so as to milk the difference from a tiny set of users, but to welcome and make mainstream any technology that connects millions of Nepalis to one another at cheaper prices. oohi ashu

Running a business in Nepal requires all kinds of unnecessary hassles. These hassles drive up the cost of doing business. The fewer these hassles are, the more businesses will flourish serving more customers and increasing the tax base for the govt. Check out the number of procedures one needs to do when starting/running a business in Nepal. - http://www.doingbusiness.org/ExploreEconomies/Default.aspx?economyid=136 oohi ashu

Listen PD, Obviously, you have NO idea what plagiarism is. Nor do you have any idea how IRRESPONSIBLE it is to call someone else a plagiarist with ZERO evidence. . . that too, based on your own lack of education. Moreover, you appear to unable to distinguish between what is generally seen as a part of "common knowledge" among educated people and what is not. I guess, that's your problem. That's fine. Since you've been following me around on Sajha -- hurling needless abuse bordering on harrassment, I suggest that you make use of the resource available at the following site: - http://www.mentalhealth.com/dis1/p21-an05.html A sample: "Repetitive behaviors or mental acts that the person feels driven to perform in response to an obsession, or according to rules that must be applied rigidly." Good luck. oohi ashu

VoIP is made to look illegal because, with cheaper and even free phone calls, that monopoly Nepal Telecom Authority (NTA) cannot charge huge fees. But VoIP is changing the telecom industries worldwide. And we should embrace it in Nepal -- all the more whole-heartedly. Our collective goal should be to connect millions more Nepalis to the phone grid, NOT keep most of them out. So what if the NTA loses out? Let the government's monopoly lose out so long as Nepali consumers, as a whole, win. In a country of 2.25 crore, it's a shame that only about 400,000 (4 lakh) have access to phone lines as of now. How long are we going to continue to remain some Fifth World nation? ******************** Here's news about Ebay's recent purchase of Skype for 2.6 billionb US Dollar. - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4237338.stm "Skype's software lets PC users talk to each other for free and make cut-price calls to mobiles and landlines." ***** Here's something from yours truly, if you are interested: - http://www.nepalnews.com.np/ntimes/issue259/strictly_business.htm oohi "NO, I have no ties to any private telecom company -- just want more Nepalis to have access to phone lines one way or another" ashu

Dear Ashu: Listen to me, "Sometimes and most of the times people like to be deceived. So you get really upset when people say something that threatens your pet ideas (dreams, fantasies, etc.)" . So don't take it for granted that you can use other's statements freely saying that it's common knowledge.. it really matters how you used it... the way you used was obscene....

Listen guys, For no reason and in a one-sided way, you attacked me in that "Narayan wins Madan" thread -- practically ruining that thread. You know this -- and everyone saw that, though most Nepalis, by nature, prefer to keep quiet even when they see injustice being done to others. [We Nepalis are great at railing against abstract sense of injustice; give us something specific to fight against, and we freeze... and that's the way we are!] But, anyway, what the hell was I supposed to do with your needless and irrelevant public attacks? Feel sorry for myself? Lash out at you? Keep quiet? Shrink away? Instead, I publicly reassured myself by posting that: "What does not kill you only makes you stronger". By that, I was saying: ALL your false attacks were NOT going to disturb me, and they have not. And that saying, BTW, is a WELL-KNOWN ookhan/statement/bhanai in English. Anyone can Google it and find out its source. What's more, I tried to humour the situation by further adding that attacking others needlessly and with ZERO evidence comes naturally to most Nepalis, and that those who aspire to some sort of a public position (from ward chariman to whatever else) must start getting used to coping with such attacks for they are part of the public territory in Nepal and among Nepali communities. But you were not satisfied. You needed another 'attack line'. That was why, you started jumping up and down and started accusing me of plagiarism for using that one-line well-known statement in a by-the-way manner here. NOW: Did I claim that that the statement was blindingly orginally mine? No. Did I make money by 'selling' that statement in this public forum? No. Did I use that statement to earn a grade of A for some Sajha paper? No. Did people really believe that I came up with that line myself? No. What I did was appeal to most people's general knowledge or their ability to Google stuff themselves if they were interested, used that statement and brushed aside your attacks. If you are not happy about it, well, tough luck. ***** Generally: If you put all the people who know you on some sort of a bell curve, there's ALWAYS going to be at least 5 per cent of those, at one end of the curve, who will NEVER like you no matter what you do and say. They will always -- often with ZERO evidence -- try to bring you down. Everyone has such 5 percent; and I have mine that includes these two gentleman. And that's life. End of this story. oohi ashu

Problem with you , Ashu, is that you are like a dictator who thinks whatever he thinks/says is ALWAYS correct... e.g., "If you put all the people who know you on some sort of a bell curve, there's ALWAYS going to be at least 5 per cent of those, at one end of the curve, who will NEVER like you no matter what you do and say. " Khub Hero bannu parchha talai yaar. You are trying to fool sajha people here giving example of Bell Curve... as if you are the greatest statistician of the world. What makes you think there's always at least 5 per cent of people, at one end of the curve, who will never like you. How the hell can you say at least 5 per cent? Why can't it be the otherwise???????? Also, why the population distribution will have the Bell Curve? Not every data set in this world need to follow that Bell Curve... Actually they don't follow the Bell Curve in most of the cases. Have you heard about SCREW Curve? Have you heard of the Skewed Data? Have you heard of the Tilted Curve??? What shit makes you say to impress people here that people liking you or not make a Bell Curve.. the reality is actually opposite of that.... Don't try to be SMART.. you are not... you know that... you are basically whinning now. Bado Statistician bhayero HERO banna khojchha , mule Ashu!!! ha ha

Hi all, having found some time to go through this thread. I see that, yet, again Ashu ji is being attacked. I have not visited Sajha in about a year. But then, I come back here and I see that nothing has changed. At least the part where Ashu ji remains the same as he was before. Well, nothing against him or for that matter for him either. What I still ask myself are some management questions(behaviourally related). That is about it! Ani, coming back to VOIP. I for one used to be SME on this few years back. It is nice to see that Nepal Aama is getting ready to adopt it. Economy wise, it is a great idea. Quality and support wise, it might take some infrastrucure and specialized skill sets. Softswitches are not anybody's piece of cake. The Class 4/Tandem and/or Class 5 (Lucent 5Ess or Noretel DMS xxx series) switiching on POTS lines are preety easy task for NTC people based on old skills. Tara, moving onto dedicated SS7, with multi-layer digital applications would demand lots of Telecom know-hows. Do we have it? On politics on this subject. Telecome is a huge business. Mr Gyanendra (don't know how to spell this name correctly, LOL) and CO understand the stake. Tara is there someone who is thinking value wise? Like Ashu ji broached on this topic. Technology is supposed to bring in value to the mass, one that solves problems, one that saves time, one that makes life easier. Hai na ra? Imagine why we see skyscrapers in NYC. Just because elevators came into being in the early part of 1900s. The same way, why VOIP would come into being, just because Internet has matured so much over the years. Hai na ra again? Cost effective solutions is the way to go. Humans have always fancied to excel in whatever they do. VOIP is one facet of it. Offer Value first, ask for business part later. Is there a business leader in Nepal who can work on simple B-module as such. Uhi Rajeev, VA, Amrika

I am quite surprised to see how Ashu misunderstood the general rules of Statistics. Your 5 % (per cent) statement is already your assumed conclusion even without doing the preliminary analysis of the data. It means you are writing the conclusion to swing the public of this forum to like you thinkingn that this public is not educated as much as you are. How deep you have studied the statistics? Did you only take fundamentals of statistics in your undergraduate or have you alsotaken some advance courses on statistics, I am just wondering !! Probably you didn't understood Statistics correctly during your studies. Little knowledge is a dangerous thing, as somebody said in the past... (I tried to find the source, but haven't got success in that, So Prem D ji do not come after me telling that I am plagiarist!!!). What if it turns out that only less than 5 per cent of the public the like you? Think about it. I am sure you didn't transform the data to get bell-shaped curve and based your inferences forgetting to transform back!!!! Be Careful. I hate to see people manipulating the statistical inferences..it often happens a lot though, even by some professors of statistics!!
