Dear Vyrus,

Thank you for your sweet words. It was a pleasure to read . Please keep the wisdom flowing.

The ones beating my Nepali didi bahinis in their homes are not from Saudi Arabia or America. They are Nepali.

Hey 191karma,

If a Mexican, or any other person, enters US illegally and, when caught by the authorities, asks for a transit visa to enter Canada, do you think the US government, and that redneck Wolfe, will oblige?

If not, what makes you stupid Tibetans so special to expect otherwise?

Citizen Brother:

For your information, US Govt has provided 85,000 refugee visa to Bhutanese saranarthi and 10,000 to Tibetans. Out of that 5,000 visas are for Tibetan Refugees in Nepal. If Hamro Sarkar cannot provide some basic rights as any human being needs, then we dont have a right to hold them. lets give them Transit Visa and let them go where these Tibetans feel they are safe. After all, we fought against ranas, monarchy and may be (jerks like you) for the rights of janjatis.

Of course being from Taplejing, I share religion and tradition with Tibetan and I admire what they have been going thru.

If I were you I would not call these Tibetans stupid. There are lots of things that we can learn from them. But I doubt that since we have a BIG EGO.

Agree with 191karma on humanitarian ground but if you think america is so for tibetans ask them to post sanctions on china, they can't and won't piss china off. How can they expect small country like nepal to piss china off? It is double standard by US, bau lai sakdina, aru lai gandina type.

 Rasika Kanchi,

You can't generalize one two three Nepali men to all of nepali men. And thanks for liking my read... now follow thru it.  You will be a lot happier. Seems like you had been abused besides don't know what you have been thru with the MALE caracter. If so, we are all sorry but clear your head not all Nepalese men are like that. Amen!

'Pressing Nepal on Tibet uncalled for'

KATHMANDU: An influential figure who advises the congressional Nepal caucus in Washington today said Nepal was doing its utmost on the Tibetan refugees issue given its proximity with China and piling pressure on Nepal at this point of time was not called for.

Jemes Rinaldi, who has also been helping Tibetan refugees reach India and the US for the last 20 years, said it was unfortunate that one his country’s congressman warned to cut aid to Nepal over the Tibetan refugee issue. Rinaldi was referring to a statement from Republican Congressman Frank Wolf, warning that his country will cut aid to Nepal if it did not grant visas to Tibetan refugees. “If they’re not willing to do it, then they don’t share our values. If they don’t share our values, we do not want to share our dollars,” Wolf had said.

Not only do such warnings undermine Nepal’s long support to the cause without affecting its relations with its northern neighbour but will also be counterproductive, held Rinaldi, international director at Himalayan Aid, an NGO working in for Tibetan refugees, told this daily. The congressman had argued that as Nepal was bound by a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with western powers and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to grant safe passage to the Tibetan refugees and allow UNHCR to take them to India. But Rinaldi said there no such agreement was ever made. “Nepal is acting only on humanitarian grounds given its historical ties with Tibet,” he said. If the West piles undue pressure on Nepal, it will also face similar pressure from China, he said. “This will ultimately be counter-productive for Tibetans.”

Renaldi flayed ‘Tibetan support groups’ that were using western funds to serve their own vested interests. Aid reaching the refugees has plummeted in the last five-six years, he said. But the expenses of the organisations working to ‘helping refugees’ has increased significantly, he added.

“China says there’s an influence from outsider groups,” said Rinaldi, adding “I should say sadly that China is right. It is the Tibet groups who are forcing Nepal to use adopt tough measures. But they say Nepal is acting under pressure from China.”

Accusing Nepal of failing to help refugees and inciting refugees in Kathmandu unnecessarily at a time when the country has been granting passage to refugees and of facilitating refugees to reach UNHCR will only augment problems for Nepal, he reckoned. “With Tibetans agitating, the government will have to deploy more security personnel bowing to Chinese pressure,” argued Rinaldi.

Tibetan lobby groups are wrong, he said. Nepal has done a fair job handling the issue, he said. Threats such as the one issued by Wolf, a member of the House Appropriation Committee related to America’s foreign aid, are not called for, said Rinaldi. “Handling the situation is already a tough ask for Nepal.” The Nepali government been reiterating its one-China policy time and again. Rinaldi said, “If they push harder, it will make Nepal’s job at the border more difficult.” “Nepal is doing its best given the circumstances. Nepal can do more and should do more. But we understand they’re under pressure,” he said, adding, “Wolf’s comment on Nepal is extremely excessive.”

 @Rashika Kanchi,

First of, it is quite pitiful to think it is a "Slap" to anyone - it is NOT. And even if it was, it would be to the entire Nepalese population, not to the Nepalese men alone. It was a senator showing off his arrogance and power to show off his threats to cut off the aids. His arrogance and idiocy is certainly not a slap to anyone but merely a display of his very character. While it is a fact that Nepal should be at least a little more humane while handling the Tibetan refugee crisis. Our leaders should take a stand against China to handle this critical issue in a proper and humanitarian manner while not disrupting the diplomatic relations with China - any one smart and bold enough in the radar? Let's hope for the best and see if BRB's government can achieve this.

Second, like someone mentioned above, Nepal's record of male dominace, currently, is a whole lot better than many countries, many of which are so called 'develop countries' and including India. Yes, of course there is a prevelance of male dominace rooted in some parts of the country, but that thought is changing rapidly over time with the younger generation - be it educated or not that educated. Honestly, it was surprising to me to see Ms. RK even talk about male dominace in Nepal in the language it is elaborated.

Finally, when someone points out a finger at the nation, it's is about national unity, not about national gender.

Jaba USA is willing to accept them and the Tibetan refugees are ready to go, why are we (our govt in kathmandu) holding them? All theese TIbetans want is the Home Ministry to issue Exit Visa so that these Tibetans can leave. For long then have been burden on us. Due to them, Nepal is getting too much pressure from all quarters. USA has already issued Refugee Permit to Bhutanese and Tibetans. We let Bhutanese go. Now let these Tibetans go. why we are holding them.

If we cannot give them basic rights, then let them go where ever they want to go. Hamro problem ra uni haro ko problem pani solved.

I hope citizen bro le kura bujyo hola. bekar ma, na wari na pari jasto kina aru lai parne.  simple kura lai ke lambai choudai lekhe ko ho!!!

Karma,

I am also against Nepal government holding the Tibetians here is Nepal if the US government is willing to pick them up. If USA is willing to pick them up and grant residency in their country, why has it been the headache of Nepal.

I am only angry as those inconsiderate Tibetians who take refuse to a weak and helpless nation and take the same nation that gives them a refuse in trouble with its neighbor. Nepal is in no position to challange the internal policies of neither of its giant neibhbors.

When we give refuge to you all Tebetians, please be appreciative of it, do not cause a scene in Nepal, do not put Nepal in a position against its neighbors, and either LIVE in Nepal peacefully or LEAVE Nepal peacefully. Once you get to a country like India and USA you can do whatever you would like to do there.

Sidster and Citizen Bro;

Did you know that for any refugees to leave Nepal, they need Exit Permit from Home Ministry. US has already issued 85,000 visa to Bhutanese saranarthi and most of them have already left after Nepal govt agreed to issue Exit Permit.

US has  granted 10,000 refugeee permit to Tibetans. Out of that 5,000 tibetans from Nepal are supposed to depart to the USA. It is our govt who is NOT issuing Exit permit for these Tibetans to leave. LET ME REPHRASE. OUR HOME MINISTRY IS NOT ISSUING EXIT PERMIT TO THESE TIBETAN REFUGEES TO DEPART TO THE USA.

It is Home & Foreign Ministry who are playing games. They want Tibetan Issues to linger so that other bigger problems would not surface. it is all Dirty Politics. I feel sorry for some of these Tibetan friends. But thats the life. All I can do is at least speak the truth.

@191karma,

You are friggin going round in circles.

Once again, if a Mexican, or any other person, enters US illegally and, when caught by the authorities, asks for a transit visa to enter Canada, do you think the US government, and that redneck Wolfe, will oblige?

Is it really tough for you to get your head around this?

Citizen:

I dont understand why the hell are you not getting my point. For you and me to travel overseas, we have passport issued by ministry of foreigh affairs. For Tibetans  refugees, they need Exit Permit from Home Minstry. The Home Ministry is purposedly not issuing EXIT PERMIT. US Govt has already issued 5,000 Refugeee visa to Tibetans. They are ready to go as soon as they have a EXIT PERMIT ( CALLED Refugee Card). Our government is not issuing the Refugee Card. Dont you get it? Refugee Card for Tibetan Refugees is similar to our Passport.

Let these people go. They have suffered enough. It is too much headache and burden for small country like ours. Our govt should just give them EXIT PERMIT ( Refugee Card) and let them go. If we cant help them, then let them leave. US is willing to bring all these Tibetans over in the USA. Let them go.

Hope you get my point right.

First you enter Nepal illegally and then you wage a violent war against China using Nepali soil. Next you start bad mouthing Nepal in the international arena and then call a US cowboy to threaten Nepal with dire economic consequnces. And now you want Nepal to go against all international norms and grant you Tibetans a transit visa?

Stop eating Dalai Lama's shit. Stupid shithead.

Terrorists like is you are usually put behind bars. MORON.

Thats sad Citizen-dfk. Think about the rights of many nepali stranded overseas somewhere in malaysia, middle east, japan, thailand or whereever they may be. They go there with high expectation of making some money but somehow ends up in jail due to  whatever reasons. Now think if you are in their shoe. Dont be like that ambassador to Saudi or ( one of the Middle East country) Qatar who pocketed One lakh US$ insurance claim. Instead of helping the family who was supposed to get that money, ambassador pocketed himself in his bank account.

Tibetans enter Nepal with no option. You have to watch that Youtube video where  Chinese border guards shoot innocents Tibetans high up in the mountain pass. But it makes no difference to you.

Every individual have a right to their freedom just like you and me. Whether it is our constitution  or UN Charter, that is universal rights. Now our country nepal cannot afford to spend and accomodate for all the individual. In such cases like Tibetan Refugees, we should let them go. We have to holding them for 50 years and it is time to let them go. Like Bhutanese Refugee case is almost over, lets finish Tibetan Issues as well. If we can't support them, at least we can show them a way to the place they want to go. If we allow Bhutanese refugees to go to USA, why not Tibetans. US govt has given refugee visas to Bhutanese as well as Tibetans.

Lets talk about Dalai Lama. I follow Gyeluk tradition of Tibetan Buddhism (Yellow sect) just like many hundreds of thousand Gyeluk Buddhists in Nepal. Dalai Lama happened is the head of the lineage. I understand China  does not like him but who foking cares. It is my tradition and my lineage that my forefathers have been practising. I hope and wish Dalai Lama will visit Nepal someday so that we can hear his teach.

You and I can disagree. We both have our own opinions. I hope someday you can be more compassionate. Like any helpless person if we cannot help them at least we can show them where they can get help. Even if we dont know, at least we can try our best in heart. Like Buddha said, "I have shown you the way. But enlightenment is up to you. YOu have to practise." Perhaps we can practise little more by showing compassion to the less fortunate one.

Whats your thought.

Tibetan held for smuggling wild animals' body parts

HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE

KATHMANDU: Police today nabbed Tashi Namdol Lama, a Tibetan exile living in Nepal, from Swoyambhu for his alleged involvement in trading in the body parts of endangered wild animals.

A special squad of Metropolitan Police Crime Division had arrested the 39-year-old Lama on the basis of intelligence reports that he was hiding in Swoyambhu area, where a large number of Tibetan refugees have been living.

According to Metro Police Crime Divison, he was absconding for a long time after police arrested some racketeers associated with him.

He has been charged with smuggling rhino horns and tiger skin to Tibet and abroad under ‘the cloak of a Tibetan exile.’ “He was featured in the most-wanted list of Bardiya National Parks in Thakurdwar for teaming up with poachers and smuggling the body parts of endangerd animals abroad,” an MPCD official said. He used to work as an intermediary between poachers and prospective buyers as well.

Lama has been handed over to the national park and shall be punished with imprisonment up to 15 years if convicted under the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act-1973.

Nepal Police have arrested more than 40 smugglers of wildlife parts and poachers with huge amount of precious objects in the past one year.
