Hey guys,

One of my molar teeth was removed at about 15 years ago. I am planning to fill it permanently. Dr. says that it is quite expensive costing around Rs. 15000.00. They say that they have to cut neighboring teeth little bit to fix it in the middle. I have no idea whether it is a reliable and works as a normal tooth later on. I would be grateful if any of you have done this before and want to share your experience to me.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like they are trying to do some fixed prosthodontic work by making a bridge to replace the lost natural structure and prevent drifting of adjacent teeth and overeruption of opposing teeth. To make a bridge, a dentist, has to cut sound adjacent teeth and make abutments.

There is nothing that can replace your own natural structures and to eliminate the complications of extractions, you need replacements. The bridges do last (how long ? no one can answer you that and there is no guarentee) if you have good oral hygiene and type of dentistry done.

The cheaper alternative is just to make a removable denture or even flipper may do.

If you want more advance type of dentistry then go for implants. It will be just like your natural tooth, without having to sacrifice your natural tooth structures.

BTW where are you ?

Thank you Shirish ji for your advice. Right now I am in US and going home (Baneshwor, Kathmandu) in the middle of June. Implantation is possible in Nepal? How do they do it?

If you are getting a bridge done in US, it may cost you ten times more than getting done in Nepal.

Again, if you do not want to sacrifice natural tooth structure, go for implants.

Depending upon where and who does it, the cost may be anywhere from 1000 - 2000 $ in total.
