Dear frens'
I want to cancel/terminate my OPT and join classes for this summer. My college is giving me hard time, saying that I have to send my OPT card to service center and request them to cancel my OPT. I have only two weeks left for summer classes. And dont have enough time to send it to Service Center.
Anybody has been in similar condition and cancelled/terminated his OPT, please share your views.
If I join classes, is it automatically cancelled or do I have to go through the process to cancel it???
Your help will be highly appreicated.
your dukhi friend.

my college is refusing to take me in (issue new I-20).........as long as I do not cancel my OPT through SEVIS. Is it not that , I will be automatically terminated from OPT as soon as I asked college to change my education level.
If not, how long will it take SEVIS to terminate my OPT?
Please give me your valuable suggestion.
thank you Nepalbabu for your suggestion.

As Nepalbabu said, your OPT is automatically terminated when you get a new I-20. If you were changing schools, then your OPT cancels on the day of your requested SEVIS release from the OPT granting school. It might be a misunderstanding from your school's part. Try calling INS for clarifications, and dump some literature from INS website at your Intl. Office.

Before graduating, I asked my advisor if I could take classes while I am at OPT and as far as my understanding of her this is what she said to me, we can take classes but we cannot register as a fullt-ime student. So, if I were you, I would take classes without terminating or cancelling my OPT but still check out with ur university! Good luck bro...

U have to get I20 first. Then U have to sign it and give back to Intl office. Then Intl officer will write somehting in SEVIS system that you have given up the OPT and you're back to school as a full time student. That's it!!
