as long as you have a official degree in your hand along with your transcript then the answer is Yes..

Yes, You should be fine by submitting the trascript and degree plan. Good luck. They might ask you to send the diploma further down the road. This won't happen for at least 6-7 months (My guess).  

I just "migrated" to Canada from US last year. I am making more money than in US. The job market is real good for technical/engineering field here. I really recommend it to anyone who is thinking about it.

I have a question for you. My sister recently got the GC from Canada stamped in her PP and she has to travel there within Sept 08 as per her letter. Is it difficult to get a job there? What about the room mates, can they be found easily...It has to be either couple / female Nepalese? What part of Canada is better in terms of Jobs & expenses for accomodation. What about the climate? Would you mind to give me some of these info? I would like her to settle in the place where Nepalese live so that incase there is any problem she can get some guidance when needed.

 

 

Getting job is not difficult but Job is for those people who can provide their skills, expertise. If you are smart not enough, there is no job in US too. Yes, bit difficult to land in job but, once you land in job, job is also secure as in Nepal. Hard to hire and fire. Remember this. If you hire easily, can fire easily. Jobs wise, Canada has pleanty of job opening specially in Calgary and Alberta area. Skill peoples are scarcity. There is always a competition everywhere. So, you have to prove you are right person.

There is seasonal labor visa/immigration available like USA - H1B, H1C Those non-skill labor does not require any degree certification but require certain years of experience, I guess. I would advise to check it out in Immigration website . www.cic.gc.ca. Canada is pretty much like US but only currency and government is different. You see everything here what you see in US.

There is a big dimand on people with technical background here in Canada. It took me 3 weeks to land a job. That means: it took me exactly 21 days to get a job offer-letter since I first started to look. Of course, I had 6 years of work experience in US (Engineering). I would recommend to put your resume in Monster.com (Canadian one). Lots of Nepalese here, when they first arrive, work at Tim Hortons (Canadian version of Dunkin Donunts). There are always odd jobs to get you started. Location wise: people say; Calgary and Vancouver is real good since they have the highest demand on skilled workers. But the down side is, its too costly to live in those parts of the country. I would definately recommend Toronto. It is not too expensive, has a real good public transportation service, big nepalese community, etc. etc. It is real easy to find an apartment in a house belonging to Nepalese people in Toronto. It seems every Nepalese buy a house in 1-2 years of living in Canada. Climate wise, westcoast is much better. They get very little snow. But if you are used to New York, Boston then Toronto will be just fine.

One thing real good about Canada is: It takes just 3 months to bring your spouse, if you get married after getting your permanent residency. (I am told that you don't even need to be employed to bring your spouse. All you have to do is sign a contract saying you will support your spouse for next 3 years) In US, it takes at least 5 years or longer and they check your tax returns to see if you can support her/him.  

Abhagi Kale: You will have to problem finding a job. But it may take some time. There was a Nepalese guy who used to work as a civil engineer in Nepal. It took him about  a year to get a job in his field since he didn't have Canadian/US work experience. (Also he was in Ottawa. Ottawa is a very small city in compare to Toronto. To find a job there is very difficult.) But eventually, he did get it. In your case, you have a degree from US. I would say, you are in a better position than him. Since your field is in geotech, I would recommend cities near oil-fields. I believe Calgary is one of them.

Only "bad" thing about Canada, I would say, is the high taxes. But then you get free health care. So its not so horrible.

I just remembered few other good things about Canada in compare to US:

Out of every 5 years, you have to be physically present in Canada only 2 years. That means, in every 5 years, you can stay in Nepal for 3 years and stay in Canada for 2 years. Even these 2 years required is waived if you are working for Canadian company/agency abroad. In US, you are required to stay in US 6 months every year.

If you decide to get the Canadian Citizenship, you will need to be in Canada for 3 years only. In US, I believe its 5 years.

People are much more tolerent to new immigrants in Canada than in US. Canadian knows, without new immigrants, Canadian economy will not go ahead.

Health is free if your household income is less than 20,000. Otherwise it depends on your income and its like having an insurence through your employer in US.
