Bar corrupt from contesting CA poll: TI
Kantipur Report
KATHMANDU, Sept 7 - As almost all political parties in the country are preparing their election manifesto, Transparency International-Nepal (TI-N) on Thursday urged political parties not to choose people, who were found involved in financial irregularities in the past, as candidates for the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) poll.
In an appeal sent to all political parties and the Election Commission, TI-N urged all political parties to bar those involved in corruption and those upon whom action has been recommended by the Attorney General, Public Account Committee and Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority.
Likewise, TI-N urged political parties to bar blacklisted defaulters and those working against parliamentary norms and values in the past from contesting the CA poll. TI-N also urged political parties to make it mandatory for CA poll contestants to publicize properties owned by them and their families.
Among others, TI-N has urged all political parties to issue manifesto in simple language, fully abide by the election code of conduct and avoid extravagant expenditure during election campaign. The anti-corruption body has also urged political parties to formulate a policy against corruption and express commitment not to politicize the bureaucracy and public enterprises.
