I have tried to work with this new subject psychology in this web. I am a student at Ohio Valley College and I want to know what do you think about the need of the subject psychology in Nepal. I am majoring in psychology. I would like to share the psychological disorder any one of you has suffered or the person near has got a problem with it. I am not a psychiatrist and I will not give you the medication but I will be happy to share about the problems you are having. Further more we can work out with problem and can seek therapies. I will be like connectors between a psychologist and a client who rather understands a little bit about it.

I will like to get a concrete feed back. Any one who will be interested in posting a feedback and to talk with me personally is always welcome. Mental ilness is discussed as a left-wing conspiracy to further the cause of socialized medicine.Psychiatry is blamed for using drugs as a crutch and as a means to line the pocket of drug companies.In addition it is taken as a misunderstood disorder that deserves treatment and funding.they arise in the less concrete realm of cognitive disorders.This area of psychiatry deals more with faulty thought patterns that can result in self-induced depression and anxiety.I am not as concerned with whether i should feel sympathetic towards these case or whether nation's money should be spent on helping them.Since the problem does exist,the more pertinent question is what causes people to fall into mentally destructive states?The economy, intensifying media, population growth, and other elements of the modern world have made for a more competitive, stressful and isolated existence for most people. Is there anything that can be done to marry the modernization and basic human social needs?If so, would it not improve the mental health of the entire nation

I feel like I should chime in here since I am in the field of mental health. I don't know if equating psychology and mental illness is really fair. Psychology is really the study of mind and behavior and mental illness is a mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities. Mental illness is a disease that still has a horrible stigma attached to it and people still don't understand that it is as common as having arthritis, kidney disease, heart disease, or even cancer. I don't think one can answer the question that you posed: "what causes people to fall into mentally destructive states?" If you look at a brain scan of a person with schizophrenia you will soon realize that it is different than that of a person that is not sick with the disease. Mental illness is a disease, and in my opinion a horribly devastating disease that affects a greater number of people than we think. If we could find a scientific/medical reason why certain people are affected by mental illness and why others are not, we would at least be one step closer to stopping the voices, hallucinations, mood swings, depression, etc. for millions of people in this world.

Since the problem does exist, the more pertinent question is what causes people to fall into mentally destructive states? – makuri. This question is worthy to be discussed I guess. Mentally destructive states are not always with the media, population growth, and other elements of the modern world. It had happened in the history too and that was not dealt properly. Now people are trying to solve it. Let me make sure that if I have understood your question. The thing you are trying to say is that if we can know where the mental disorder came from than we are able to solve it. Or the modernization is the cause of it. The fact that you have talked about the isolation, competitive and stressful life is one of the powerful reasons you have presented. And that is quite logical to me. If I have truly understand the last question, “Is there anything that can be done to marry the modernization and basic human social needs?” This is your strong idea and through this you want to improve the mental health of the entire nation. But one thing I would like to talk about is the people who are modern and who are fulfilled with the human social needs are also suffering from this so what about those people.

Seems like you have focused to the united states. Since you talked about the modernisation.But at the last paragraph of your message says that entire nation so i am confused to whom you are addressing. So if we will talk about Nepal than it will be fruitful. Because the condition of there is more worse than here.
