I need some good information on the criteria to drop a class. Can we always drop a class at any time during a semester? what about if we have some medical reason? Need help as soon as possible. Thank you.

There is a certain date by which if you were to drop your classes, you won't get a W or F ( withdrawal or fail ). After that there is another time table after which if you were to drop your class, you'd get a W. After the date for dropping your classes has passed, you won't get a W, you'll get a F. If your semester started on January then I'm pretty positive that if you were to drop your classes now, you'll get a F.

If you have a valid medical reason, talk to the doctor if he is willing to do the necessary paperwork. In this case you can have a pending status. You wont get a F or a W, but have to retake the part, which you couldnt complete earlyer. Even IINS /USCIS does not takes action on you and your Student status can be maintained that way. However, as mentioned you have to produce a doctors certificate, which wont come till your doctor says he will do it for you.

Be very very careful about not to jeopardize your F-1 status. Get very specific infortion from the registrar and international student administration office about what to do for what held true yesterday may not be good anymore. I believe if you drop a class while taking minimum full-time class. You will be out of status and if you fail any course once or more than once, you face the risk of being out of status. Get info from international student office at your college. good luck

since u are taking 19 credits u can easily drop that course and not be out of status...because the minimum requirement for undergrads is just 12 credits i think. and if the last day to drop has already passed by......you can always go talk to your adviser or somebody and with their permission you can get a W instead of a F. but dont be scared to go talk to your adviser and the international office.....specially since you are doing pretty good on other courses. good luck!

Yeah, I will sign the form for you. Come and meet me, and I will be happy to do it for you. I am sorry that you have been sick. That was what my instructor told me. I want to know that if the registar or the administrators office will pose me a problem. The teacher will let me withdraw. I am just too afraid because I am doing this for the first time. Ramel
