dude never been there but i can tell you this much the music is BANGIN there and parties never stop. City is stronger than ever now and i think its good that you are going to live there. Lot of african americans there so crime rate should be a little high not steriotyping (i know i spelled it wrong) or anything but yeah other than that the place is Rich in american culture should have fun there.

Most Dangerous States 2006 www.governmentguide.com

The Places Where Crime Ranks Highest in the U.S.
Lock Your Doors?

It depends on where you live. The 13th annual Most Dangerous State rankings were based on six basic crime factors: murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and motor vehicle theft. See which states made the top 10 list. Did yours?

1. Nevada
The home to "Sin City" tops the list for the third year in a row. Its violent crime rate was up nearly 18 percent in the five years from 2000 to 2004, while nationally, violent crime rates have decreased 8 percent.

2. Louisiana
As if Hurricane Katrina didn't do enough damage to the state, residents also suffer from this staggering stat: It hosts the highest number of murders in America. The U.S. rate is 5.5 (per 100,000 population). The Creole state: a whopping 12.7.

4. Arizona
Don't leave your car unlocked in the Grand Canyon state. It has more than double the number of motor vehicle thefts than the national average. Only Nevada has more.

5. Maryland
Its state motto is "Fatti Maschii, Parole Femine" which means "Manly Deeds, Womanly Words." But with the highest rate of robberies in America, maybe it should consider "Stick 'em up!" instead.

6. South Carolina
Well-known to vacationers for its golf and beach vacations (think Hilton Head), the Palmetto State also wins the award for the highest rate of aggravated assaults in the U.S.

7. Florida
While the Sunshine State didn't land in the top three for any particular crime category, it did rank fourth for aggravated assaults and fifth for robberies.

8. Tennessee
The state may have turned out many country music stars in Nashville, but it also seems to be fostering many thugs, as well. The state ranks third in aggravated assaults and fifth for burglaries.

9. Alaska
This stat is just plain alarming: Alaska has a rate of 85.1 rapes per year (per 100,000 population) -- almost triple the U.S. average of 32.2 rapes -- making the state No. 1 in this crime category.

10. California
The Golden State came in third for motor vehicle theft, sixth for robberies and ninth for murders.

bideshi,
as a matter of fact,I have been there for many times, maybe 15+ times......I always enjoyed my trip to NO,.....awesome place to be....I have spent couples of nights with my family and had no any evil experience, whatsoever.I have enjoyed the night life, especially in the downtown area. And,Mardi Gras is incredible;you can enjoy it as much as you can---I mean you can have(?) it beyond limit...hahaha....!

It was last year's hurricane katrina which is really a dicouraging fact /factor for NO;otherwise it is a city to be dwelled-I believe.Even after Katrina,I have been there 4 times. The fact that the majority of black is Not so intimidating to me rather than a psychological fear.I have learned some recent (2/3 months back)crimes(murders...........),but,I think, those incidents shouldnot be sterotyped.Crime happens anywhere...

In fact,I am not advertising NO.If you compare with other cities in US,you may find some facts that may discourage you. After all, any US city is far safer than our Kathmandu or any cities in Nepal...ki kaso ta?

We are in New Orleans! There are few Nepalese students too! Send me an email if you need furher info. Some facts about New Orleans:

Crime rate is too high. People kill just for fun!

Auto insutrance is too high! Too much auto accidents and thefts! Call your insurance company to find out what will be auto insurance rate before you move here.

Home insurance is too high. Too much hurricane/flood claims!

2 bed room apartments that were rentig for $650.00 before Katrina are renting for $800 to $900.00 now .. that too if you are lucky to get it. There is shortage of apartments as many got destroyed due to Katrina. Find out if you can get an apartment at reasonable rate at convenient location before you move here.

I do not know where you coming from. But the cost of living in this town is higher than in Houston, Dallas, or any cities in the southwest! Even grocries cost more here than it costs in Houston!

Now the good stuffs!

Food is good! If you like food and fun, welcome to New Orleans!

This is not a huge city. No matter where you go within the city, you will not drive more than 10/15 miles!
