Hi everyone. My labor has just been approved. I was on my way to file for I-140 and I-485, when I found out that my lawyer is indicted and charged by the US Attorney's Office. She has been charged with visa fraud and bringing out illegal immigrants to this country. Right now she's out on a bail of $100,000. I talked with few others and everyone has told me to drop the lawyer. On top of that, my lawyer is pretty expensive. I was just wondering how difficult it is to file the I-140 and the I-485 on your own. Has anyone done their own filings in the past? If anyone has or knows someone who has done this, please le me know. What are the steps that I need to be aware of. I was going through the 2 forms (I-140 and I-485), and they seem pretty straight forward. If anyone has any ideas, please email me at bbokhim@gmail.com Thank you.

Bijay, Where would you file your I-140? Texas Service Center or Nebraska Service Center? Shouldn't I-140 be filed by the company? Kattie

Nope. I don't agree any of these answers. Best way to do is do by yourself. Just spend little time on reading the instructions. If you need any further help or you are getting hard time to understand in filling out the forms in some area, just call INS they are friendly and they will help you. Thats what their customer service is for. Whenever I had processed a green card for me and my family, I never had to spend even a penny for lawyer. Your lawyer can't make your process faster. Their role is nothing more than "Lekhandas".

shailendra ..i did the exact way you did...i didn't want to spend money just filling that form..i got instruction from the costumer service.....mine was too late...i found that USCIS people don't give rats about the application...whenever i called them for the information about the filled form, some of the people who worked over there was rude and i thought they don't like immigrants..that's why i finally needed to go to lawyer....... you are the lucky....
