I came to know that there was a dreadful accident which caused four neapalese for their early demise. Their first name is Subash Gurung, Pralad or prabhat Gurung, Amrit ( LN not known) and Pukar(LN not known). They were travelling towards Dallas From Houston.

Two more close calls today with me.. Stop this now!!! One a mexican guy just didn't stop at the stop light and came in front of our car and another incident was a guy in the parking lot just walked right in front of the moving vehicle....very close calls. Not trying to spread panic but even being careful things are just happening weird..
It might be purely coincidental but not so frequent incidents....
Just be really careful guys.
Luckily i have started driving 10-15 mph below my normal speed might have helped me these past weeks or so

Now getting back to reality, somebody cuts you @ 70 and you move to shoulder instead of hitting on a brake (O: .. no offense unless you were going on a car race how do you even know shoulder was safe to slide over to. natural reaction would be to speed down rather than move aside (O: hoina ra !!!!

me being where entry lane merges into the incoming traffic of a highway and 95 nightmare.... along with 91-93-84 ...
all i can suggest is. watch traffic in "all of your three mirrors." and try to follow the traffic rather than trying to beat them by racing....

Amrit Dhital, Subash Gurung and Pralad Gurung of Houston, Texas and Pukar Acharya of Tyler, Texas have passed away in an unfortunate vehicle accident on Jan. 6, 2006 in Lyon County, Texas on US Highway 9, 3 mile north of Buffalo, Texas. The funeral and the Memorial Service for the deceased has been made in the Fairway Crematorium in Van, Texas on Monday, Jan. 9 at 2:00 p.m. for Pukar and Amrit and at 4:00 p.m. for Pralad and Subash. Van is located on US Highway 20 and 110.

On behalf of Nepalese Association of Houston, we request you to make every attempt to attend the funeral service on Jan. 9 in Van, Texas, to pay tribute and pray for the eternal peace of the departed souls.

this is Bansie from Michigan. Bedija, killed in Mennesotta, was my former room mate and Subash, killed in Texas, was also my former room mate and former NIST, lainchaur collegue. We three and others had rented a house in Ocean City in the summer of 2004. I hope death is not around the lease holders of that house like in "Final Destination" and believe the rest of us room mates will accomplish what we got to in this foreign land.
Please drive careful, roads are not that good especially in north.
Lastly, I would like to condole the griefed family and may all the departed souls rest in peace!!!

I told them that it is ironic how the journalists that work for them couldn't even """quote""" things right.(I sent them a copy of their news with their error highlighted, as well as the URL of the original news that they quoted from.) They seem to have corrected it now!

My deepest condolances & sympathy to all 4 victims. May their soul rest in peace. Something common with two seperate incidences in MN & TX is "age". All the victims are between 19 - 21.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, "In 2002, crashes were the No. 1 cause of death for every age from 3 through 33."

Car Accident Statistics
There are about 3 million car-related injuries a year, 2 million permanent injuries and 40,000 deaths in the U.S. each year. I guess since the Nepalese population is growing in US, we will also be part of the 40,000 people who die in Auto accidents each year more than ever before. Since the young & the old are more likely to die in car accidents, my advice to all the young Nepalese in US is please be extra careful during the first few years of driving in US. Also always be aware of your surroundings and drive defensively. Driving in US may look easy but remember it takes time & experience to become a good driver. Although you might be an expert driving around your small town, city or your neighborhood, please be extra careful when you are driving to places you have never driven before.

I knew Amrit. He was my classmate back in Nepal. A hard workin, n intelligent guy used to top out in the class. After hearin it all i still can't believe he's gone. No matter what you'll still be with us. Rest in peace. I am confident that his example will serve as a source of inspiration, specially to ur brothers n sisters. My deepest condolences to all four souls.

And Amrit was the one who was driving it. He was a good driver. I seen him drive and even been on a vehicle while he was drivin. There's no way in this whole wide world he'd ever do that. Four Nepali students, Amrit Dhital, 21, Subash Gurung, 20, Pralad Gurung, 22, Pukar Acharya, 21, passed away in a head-on collision with Betty Langford, 72, shortly after 1:00 p.m. in Leon County, Texas, on Friday, January 6, 2006.

The four were in a rental 2005 Dodge Stratus heading northbound on US Highway 79 from Houston, TX to Tyler, TX while they collided with Betty Langford’s 2004 Jaguar heading southbound. Mrs. Langford had attempted to pass another vehicle (on a bridge) and hit the 2005 Dodge Stratus carrying the Nepali students, according to the Department of Public Safety spokesman.

Amrit Dhital and Subash Gurung were wearing their seatbelts, while Pukar Acharya and Pralad Gurung were not. Betty Langford was also wearing her seatbelt. All were pronounced dead at the scene, except for Subash Gurung, who was pronounced dead at 2:45 p.m. at Fairfield Regional Hospital in Fairfield, TX.

Subash Gurung, Pralad Gurung and Amrit Dhital were students at San Jacinto College, Houston, TX, while Pukar Acharya was a student at the University of Texas, Tyler, TX.

All four had arrived in the U.S. on January 2004 from Nobel Institute. In Nepal, Amrit resided in Banepa, Dhulikhel, Subash in Bijuli Bazar, Baneswor, Pukar in Battish Putali, and Pralhad in Bansbari, in Kathmandu. They were previously students at Lewis Clark State College, Lewingston, Idaho. Subash and Pralhad Gurung had transferred to Houston after the summer of 2004. Amrit had transferred at a later date.

Nepalese Association of Houston, along with Nepalese Society of Texas (Dallas) are arranging funerals for these four young departed souls on Monday, January 9th, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. for Pukar and Amrit, and 4:00 p.m. for Subash and Pralad in Van, TX, west of Tyler, TX. A Nepali punditji will be present to perform the ceremony.

Please make every effort to attend the funeral service and pray for the eternal peace of the departed souls who are on their way to the heavenly abode, as well as express your sympathies and condolences to the members of the family of the deceased.

this is really a very very sad news.how things like this can happen one after another and even within a same week. this is unbelievable. oh god this is really heart breaking.my heart is still not ready to accept all this terrible incidents with our nepalese friends.

Thapap, you're right... that I did braked my car to reduce the speed and slided to the shoulder. Dude, when someone cuts right into you, you don't have time to think whether the shoulder is safe or not... you either slide it over or get hit.. which one do you prefer?

Agree with thapap. While driving, always keep in mind on what's around (Left, Right,Front,Rear). So that you can take appropriate actions like either slowing down or else swerving to one side. Defensive driving is the best like watch out for red light runners when your light turns green. But then everything is dasha. If you're destined for that it will happen no matter what. Peace everybody
