WASHINGTON - There has been a tragic end to a search for a missing University of Maryland student.
District Police say the body of 22-year-old Arvin Sharma was pulled out of the Anacostia River Monday morning. A passer-by saw a body near the 11th Street Bridge and called police around 9:45 a.m. Monday.
Police say drowning is the most likely cause of death. A report from the medical examiner is expected last this week, but officials say initial observations indicate the body could have been in the water for a week.
Sharma was last seen in the early hours of April 16 at a nightclub on Half Street in Southwest.
Relatives said they suspect foul play, insisting it was unlike Sharma to disappear. Reports say when it came time to leave Club Lime, Sharms'a friends were unable to find him.
Sharma was a senior who was supposed to graduate next month.
