I have extended the visa few times and there's no timeline for approval or rejection. One time it got approved after 2 years. Other time, one of the extension was denied after 1.5 years. But my understanding is once they leave the country after max stay of 1 year, that application is abandoned.

Thank you. Can you come back to visit again while the application is pending? The visa is still valid for another year and a half.

Did they leave US before the final date requested in the extension? Anyway, if they need want to visit again on the existing valid visa, make sure they bring the timely filed NOA1 of the extension. Finger crossed. It could go either way at the POE.

Yes, they left a week before the requested extension date. So overall they stayed almost 1 year.
