Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 6th District and the Gaithersburg Police Department have arrested and charged Samrat Lama, age 30, of an unconfirmed address, for the armed robbery of a bank located in Gaithersburg.
On Tuesday, October 6, at approximately 10:02 a.m., the Emergency Communications Center (911 Center) received a call from a bank employee who stated that the Wells Fargo bank located at 607 North Frederick Avenue was being robbed.
6th District officers and Gaithersburg police officers arrived at the bank approximately two minutes after receiving the call and located Lama still inside; he was taken into custody.
Investigation determined that Lama entered the bank and told an employee he was interested in opening a savings account. During the interaction, Lama took a knife from his book bag and pointed it at the employee. He demanded money from the tellers and began to place the money in a trash bag that he had removed from his book bag. Lama then went to the drive-thru teller and demanded more cash. As Lama returned to the bank lobby, he was met with officers and was arrested.
Lama was transported to the Central Processing Unit and charged with armed robbery. He is being held without bond.
