Travel document is just a handwritten passport issued by embassy. Don't know if that has changed since april 2015. It takes about two weeks for slow nepalese embassy to issue you one if you keep calling and following up. No need to show emergency coz its your right. Cost is about $20 (not sure). I got mine delivered in 10 days after calling everyday.

That's interesting furke. Now you mentioned Travel document is just a handwritten passport I will check with Nepalese embassy to see if I really need to apply for that as my current hand written passport expires by the end of 2016 only. Thanks for your response.

Travel document is not hand written passport. U can't travel with a hand written document passport after Nov 2015. Travel document is simply document that lets you go Nepal and you will prepare passport in Nepal.

Nepalese citizens, who are unable to submit the required documents, are advised to apply for Travel Document. The Travel Document is valid for three months and one way travel to Nepal only. You can apply for New Passport in Nepal.
