Hello I am scheduled to graduate this term...if I pass all classes but I am not sure If i can pass in 1 class. I have not been doing well.. BUT I might get through if I do well in finals.. so the confusion is what should I do on applying OPT. I will be done with this term on June and if I pass in all class then I am done with my degree and there is no issue. I want to apply for OPT now and start a job soon. I already have a confirmed job after I get my OPT approved. This is the same job I did my internship. SO I want to apply OPT early and start working. IF I apply OPT and lets say I dont pass the course and I need to wait until Fall, 2014 to retake the class and complete it then what happens to my OPT that I applied? I could wait until my grades are out but I wont have money to that long so with all the circunstances my only option is to apply OPT now.. I just want to know the consequences if I fails one class and I cannot graduate.. then what happens to my OPT application?

Work Hard. You have a job in your hand and do you want that job to let go away this easy. Its tough to find job these days. Focus more on that subject and graduate as soon as possible. But, lets discuss your scenario , what if : If you are graduating in June and want to work right away, you should be applying for OPT this week. Remember, you can't work until you have an OPT card on your hand. OPT card takes any days between 30-90 days. So, you want to think that ahead of time. If you get your opt card and you failed that class and you are unable to graduate. Your card will be automatically dismissed once you join your college for the fall semester. So, there is nothing to worry about. Once, you fail the class, talk to your DSO and request them to extend your I-20. You should be just fine. But, If I were you, I would struggle harder and pass that subject and graduate and start working right away. Good Luck.

If you have job in hand and the finals are still not over, you should study your ass off for the exam.

I am definately trying hard... but the course itself is extremely hard... its hard to catch up !!!!.. lots of projects on java compilers .. its a headache.. so i am kind of mixed in my thoughts. But I just want to know what happens to my OPT if I fail.. if I pass then its all normal.. just incase I dont make it.

OPT automatically cancels if you join the college again. You should fine either way.

Thanks Coolbuddy for giving a good advice to masaura. Masaura, - if you are graduating and doing good in all subject except one, my advice would be go talk to your professor. Explain your situation and give more time on that subject. Usually when you are in your final semester you have to submit your graduation package. My understanding is if you just work hard and talk to your professor you will end up with a passing grade. Universities usually do not fail students in their final semester unless you are exceptional. Thanks, Nepali

My case : Year: 2005 Summer.. Attending Community College, left HIST- II and GOV- II to get Ass. Deg in General Science. Took both classes on summer, applied OPT, Failed in HIST - II (took class only to get OPT) Still got OPT, worked for year ( during that time trans to 4 - year).. Later took HIST-II there and transferred back to community, got my 4 year and ass degree at the same year. My understing -- You can still get OPT and work with 6 or less credit hours left for degree. SO I think U failing one subject will not stop u from getting OPT. However, U might not get the degree certification from college until u take that course again. This is important because you are not fully graduated, and some companies do graduation check as well.. Going back to college in OPT is grey-area. At least at my time (2007, 2008), there was no definite answer. My advisor suggested me to take only half credit hours...Technically OPT is a F-1 status. Year 2008 Fall" took 6 credit hours in community college while in OPT... Hope this helps...by the way your advisor should answer all your concerns....if not go to another advisor .......

Masaura, I'm not an IT guy. You may want to open a new thread and ask help from IT gurus.
