I have android phone now and will be switching to windows phone in couple of days. People gets problem about saving their contacts while switching from one phone to another. Is there anyway where we can save the contact online and retrieve it when necessary?

In android, you can sync your contacts in google server. Not sure about Windows phone but I guess it syncs with your live account and store the accounts in skydrive.

 i'd say, save the contacts on sim if you will be using the same sim and then copy the contacts in your new phone or you can also access the contacts from sim card if you do not wish to copy to new phone.

Saving in SIM is reliable. What if you lost your phone? You will be loosing all the contacts. So always save in cloud

Bbmb on android open contact and press menu , there ia export and import. Press it. It has bunch of options including copy to sim.

In windows phone there is an app from nokia that lets you transfer contacts via bluetooth.
